10 1-Arm K-Bell Swings (20kg/12kg)One of the things that I noticed during the last couple of weeks as visitors came in and out of town is just how much a CrossFit gym can be an oasis. I definitely see it when people come from other parts of the country or even other parts of the world. Sometimes locating the CrossFit affiliate is the first thing they do. It was really something to watch people who were here for such a short time become real members of our community, instantly accepted as a friend, someone trusted and understood. There is something familiar and comforting about finding your people out in the world.
I also see it with our members who are here every day. It’s great to see people come into the space and slip out of their daily grind and “relax” for an hour – sometimes longer. To feel comfortable enough to grunt and groan, and lie down next to each other on the floor. To let it all go and swap war stories when it is all over. I know I feel it when I’m done with a workout – that sense of not wanting to leave, to hang out a little longer. A nice, sweaty, safe home away from home.
