COMPETITION: TESTING WEEK

1 RM Jerk in 20 min
1 RM Front Squat in 20 minWhoa! There are quite a number of amazing things going on right now at CFLA and it’s starting to feel like the extraordinary is becoming ordinary ’round here. For starters 120 of you came out to set your WLC baselines and are now into your 3rd day of the challenge! Let us not forget that the guys that started this thing – Andy and Michael – are now reaching tens of thousands of people globally! As many of us were at Cheviot Hills park doing as many burpees possible, Matt Doss was running a 50 mile race (Avalon 50) in 9 hours and 35 minutes!

Congruent with the start of the WLC we are also starting our tests for the upcoming training cycle today from a perspective of mastery. You might have noticed that we’ve been blogging and talking about mastery. In fact, we’ve officially changed our logo, brand and basic methodology from, “School of Elite Fitness,” to, “School of Mastery.” To many this may be compelling, exciting, and refreshing. Others may interpret the, “School of Mastery,” as esoteric and perhaps even ridiculous. My sense is that the majority of our community are genuinely interested in this conceptually but may not understand how it is expressed practically? Fair enough, let’s take a looksie.

At a School of Elite Fitness the priority is simple: Quantifiably improve a students physical work capacity using a competition based model (white board, scores, times, weights, etc). Undoubtedly, this revolutionary result driven concept has forever changed fitness and yielded millions of positive adaptations. And as head coach I promise to deliver on your increased work capacity with the most intentional programing we can deliver – and you will get great physical result. But there is more… Don’t get me wrong – I love results. I love when my students, athletes and clients earn improved work capacity by competing against themselves and others. Moreover, results are my business – without them I wouldn’t be successful as a coach. Clearly, any fitness program that yields positive physical results is well worth it.

And a program that intentionally yields positive mental and emotional adaptations is worth even more. For us context – the how we approach and execute our intentions is just as important as the workout itself. Who you are while you are training, competing and being mentally tough is what we care about. Take a moment prior to the workouts to prepare your mind and heart. Full development is more than a Fran time and so is the practice of mastery…
