An Ever-Evolving Process

An Ever-Evolving Process

“There is no such thing as maturity. There is instead an ever-evolving process of maturing. Because when there is a maturity, there is a conclusion and a cessation. That’s the end. That’s when the coffin is closed. You might be deteriorating physically in the long process of aging, but your personal process of daily discovery is ongoing. You continue to learn more and more about yourself every day.” – Bruce Lee

This awesome quote is very applicable to any practice in your life, especially our workouts. I often observe frustration from students who aren’t hitting a certain mark they think they should be hitting. Maybe they believe they should be faster, or stronger, or more flexible, or less tired, etc, etc, etc. The frustration from this belief can turn to instant negativity and actually impede progress in that moment.

If you want something, by all means, set a goal and pursue it. But don’t get so caught up in that result as an endpoint. Instead dedicate yourself to the daily process and look inward for things to learn about and develop in yourself. You can then use this perspective as a vehicle to move yourself forward.

Be positive. Be patient. Be a master.
