Be Aware

I hope you saw Kenny’s post and Kevin’s post on breathing, which were posted on the blog this week. I’m gonna add to the mix!

Today during my workout, I set out to just be aware of my breath. I didn’t perform any type of advanced breathing technique; I just made myself conscious to every breath I took. It wasn’t the first time I’ve done this, but for some reason, I really was able to stick with it through all of today’s workout.

It’s crazy what just a mere awareness of breath did to improve my actual breathing during activity. I very naturally breathed more deeply and with more control than what I am used to, which made me feel much less taxed than what I expected I would have felt otherwise.

I think such a practice is no different than being aware of movement patterns and techniques. Whatever it may be, you can only begin to improve something once you are first aware of it.

Try it this week, and let me know how it goes!
