Tell us about you sports & fitness background: I grew up playing lots of sports, from swimming to volleyball to basketball and tennis. Once I got to the high school age, I stopped playing sports and really didn’t do anything competitive until I started doing some competitive couples bodybuilding, complete with the tanning oil and bleach blond hair….straight out of a Motley Crue video. From there I transitioned to running and from running I moved onto Crossfit.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? My husband started Crossfit about 5 months before me and I was firmly in the no column…absolute. After he was doing it for a while and becoming more fanatical, I thought I’d give it a try at one of the “Bring a Friend” days. It was a partner WOD with rowing and dumbbell thrusters. The dumbbell thrusters smoked my quads. I was good to go on a sign up, but had to first do the Saturday introduction class. My quads were still sore and I almost couldn’t do the base line workout, but made it through ok.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? I have seen a huge difference in the lean muscle that I’ve gained, which I never got from my old workout regimen. Nothing makes me happier than when I’m walking around and someone asks me if I’m a trainer or if I do Crossfit.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? I am definitely more confident (mouthy…so my husband says) and outgoing (won’t shut up…again, so he says), and I am certainly more conscious of what I eat and knowledgeable about nutrition.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFLA moments:  Two big Crossfit moments for me would have to be when I got my first kipping pullup, or possibly when I finally got double unders, WHICH TOOK FOREVER!! However, doing the Femme Royale with Christina Connolly and the first time I did Murph with the whole crew would be at the top of the list.

Any advice for people just getting started?  Be patient and just keep showing up. The fitness comes quickly, some of the skill work takes a bit longer……AND whatever you do, if you see a bald guy with a beard and an angry look on his face…DON’T CHEER HIM ON! Seriously, have fun and just enjoy suffering with everyone else.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I have four furry creatures that I love to death. Three are my four legged kids (golden retrievers) who are sweet and loving, and the fourth I married. They are all a little smelly, but I love them anyway. I love chilling at home and eating out, but I also love trying new little adventures with my husband.
