This past weekend the CFLA Tri-team competed at the Hits Triathlon in Napa, CA.
After the event, I sent this email to the team…

Dear CFLA Tri- TEAM,
At the very first practice, it was clear to me that you were a diverse group of athletes. All of you tried your hand at a lot of new skill sets and got a few bumps and bruises along the way. As your coach, there’s only so much I can teach you in a closed period of time. You have to glean energy from one another while also relying on your inner mental toughness.  When it came down to the event weekend, we knew we’d be away from our daily comforts, friends, and family. The team would now be your support system and all that you had learned would be tested in an unfamiliar environment.
Then came Race Day. It was cold, wet, windy and for most of you, it was your first time in the “fog” of triathlon. My nerves were on edge waiting at the swim exit. But all of you emerged with confidence and some with cold feet :-). The transitions were like seeing children off the school for the first time…are they going to make it out there, did they make the right decisions?  At the finish line, I was surrounded by hundreds of cheering spectators. One by one, you crested the last hill (among many), and all of your strides quickened. None of you let up – the finish line could have been a brick wall – nothing was going to stop you!

TEAM – I’ve been coached or have been a coach, for most of my life.  Not all my experiences have workout well, but then you find the right person or assemble the right team… then something special happens.
