16.1 Scoring Update and Philanthropy

——Crossfit LA Game of Throwdowns Update——

Due to a miscount on both teams of participants in 16.1, an official scoring review has been completed and the PM takes the win for participation, and therefore the win for 16.1.

Reminder- Participation is scored only for showing up to the Friday night events.  Your score will count towards performance for completing the workout anytime prior to 5pm PT the following Monday.

And here’s a bit on Philanthropy!!!

Participants of the 2016 CFLA Game Of Throwdowns, I just wanted to thank you for getting together last Friday night and donating for a great cause.  Here are a couple of facts from the West Side Food Bank:

Westside Food Bank’s mission is to distribute as much nutritious food as possible to local food assistance charities, and to reduce food waste on the Westside.

Westside Food Bank is a non-profit organization, which was founded in 1981 and which now provides food to the food assistance programs of 70 Westside social service agencies.  Most of our food goes to community food pantries, with nearly half going to children. Our food now reaches more than 100,000 people per year.

In the past two decades (in spite of a loss, annually, of 600,000 pounds of government food):

-Westside Food Bank’s food distribution has more than tripled – from 1.4 million pounds per year, to 4.5 million pounds.  In the same period, the number of food assistance requests at local food pantries has also more than tripled.  Starting with the Great Recession of 2008, the number of client visits to food pantries on the Westside mushroomed.  Now, local food pantry visits are running 88% higher than in 2008 – and, with government benefit reductions, the level of need shows no sign of abating.

-Our food cost index improved so that we can now provide enough food for 4 meals for every donated dollar.

Thanks again for your support, and keep the donations rolling in over the next 4 weeks of competition!
