As a member of Oak Park (CFLA), when you hear TEST WEEK, what comes to mind?

Be honest with yourself, what kind of internal dialogue occurs in response to the notion of TEST WEEK?

Do you focus on sucking, embarrassing yourself, and being judged?

OR…

Do you focus on learning more about yourself, growing your fitness capacity, and getting to be a part of a community of like-minded individuals that encourage you to be your best?

The former is the focus of a fixed mindset; whereas, the latter is the focus of a growth mindset. A fixed mindset is preoccupied with the outcome. A growth mindset is preoccupied with the process.

The good news is that mindset is a CHOICE that starts with self awareness, i.e., monitoring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

I encourage you to make the most of Oak Park’s first TEST WEEK of 2018 by practicing the mechanics of a growth mindset.

Here’s how:

Before each workout: write down three reasons why you train and how it helps you to go from where you are to where you want to be.

During each workout: Monitor your thoughts, feelings, and desires. RECOGNIZE when “fixed” and/or negative thoughts/emotions are present, REMIND yourself of the opportunity to get better—you are a powerful verb NOT a fragile noun, and REMEMBER one of the reasons WHY you train.

After each workout: Answer for yourself, what was good? What could have been better? And how will you do that during your next training session?
