Rings can definitely throw most everybody for a loop. Suddenly push ups, dips, and pull ups become far more difficult than they are on stable land. Why is that? Rings take you to a whole new world when it comes to balance. Going from bar dips to ring dips is like going straight from running on dirt, to sprint on ice. Balance is the tenth of the 10 General Physical Skills — it is “the ability to control the placement of the bodies center of gravity in relation to its support base.” When your support base changes from a solid object attached to the ground to rings suspended from the ceiling, balance becomes a bigger challenge. Through practice, our balance can be developed and strengthened. The more time you spend on the rings, the less wiggly you become!
