“Fight Gone Bad Wednesday”
Partner Tag Team

With a partner (one person working at any given time), gothrough 2 rounds for max reps:
3 min wall balls
3 min SDLHP
3 min box jumps
3 min push press
3 min row for calories

*no rest in between rounds*Last week I learned the wife of a friend of mine has a yoga studio two blocks from my apartment here in Portland. I did yoga diligently for a year and a half in Los Angeles, then the school changed and I never found another instructor or class I enjoyed as much. So, I went to this class last Monday and I loved it. It’s an hour long, she includes a lot of references to anatomy, and she keeps it interesting.

But there was something in particular that made me love it and want to keep going back. I discovered something I was unable to do, something I wasn’t even sure how to trigger in my body. We were practicing ujjayi breathing, which I have never done before. I was supposed to be breathing up into my ribs, but relaxing my belly. I was completely incapable of doing it. I could not for the life of me figure out how to tell my belly to relax. I think all the years of weight lifting and kickboxing have my abdomen trained to be instinctively hard.

The instructor came over and asked how I was doing. I said, “I have no idea how to do this.” She looked at me and said, “Isn’t that great?”

And it is. How refreshing to come from a place of an absolute “I don’t know.” I get to ask all the questions I want. I get to attempt and fail as much as I need to, with no expectation. And one day, I’ll figure it out and celebrate. I think I would like to find as many “I don’t knows” as I possibly can.
