Getting Started at CFLA

Whether you’re a seasoned CrossFitter or a novice athlete, you may have already discovered that not all CrossFit gyms are alike. While we each operate under the general philosophy of CrossFit, individual gym culture, programming, and training philosophies can vary considerably.

Here at CFLA School of Mastery, we care most about Context, Coaching, and Community. Each new student is assigned to a Primary Coach, who will be your point person for guidance, accountability, memberships, and so forth. Building the relationship between coach and student and integrating the student into the community is a three-phase journey.

Phase 1 (90min): Intro Consultation at CrossFit Los Angeles | $0


During your free consultation, you will sit down with a coach to get on the same page about your goals and to learn more about the context-driven philosophy of our program. You and your coach will need to agree that this will be a good mutual fit, and if so, you will perform a baseline workout to allow your coach to assess your movement mechanics and make adjustments to the Fundamentals curriculum (Phase 2) when appropriate.

Phase 2 (10 PTs): Before Group Classes, Fundamentals | $1100

Fundamentals is a vital phase on your journey. Here you will spend a lot of one-on-one time with your coach and your relationship will be built. The strength of this relationship will critically influence the effectiveness of the coaching you receive from your Primary Coach in the long term of your journey. You will discover your current understanding and movement mechanics and your coach will provide feedback and cues to improve their execution and efficacy. This is also give you an opportunity to learn more about our training philosophy, culture, etiquette, which will facilitate your transition into our community and Group Classes.

Fundamentals consists of approximately ten personal training sessions. These sessions will cover CrossFit-specific movements, olympic weightlifting, power lifting, gymnastics-style movements, as well as the different types of endurance methods we use. Your coach can also make recommendations for scaling workouts to your ability, improving mobility, preventing injury, and optimizing nutrition.

The purpose of Fundamentals prior to Group Classes is three-fold:

(1) 1-on-1 training allows you to work at a pace that is appropriate for you as you digest new information or as you make more subtle improvements to your technique.

(2) We want you to join in on Group Classes with confidence and an accurate understanding of your abilities.

(3) We believe that building relationships improves quality of life, and a coaching relationship is no exception. We want to get to know you personally. We want to hear about your wellness goals, what’s going on in your life, and the type of support you need to succeed.


Fundamentals Personal Training Cost:

$1100 for 10 sessions | 1-on-1 personal training
$675/ea for 10 sessions | 2-on-1 personal training

Phase 3 (Life): Group Classes, Specialty Programs, Private Training | varies

After completing Fundamentals you will spend the rest of your journey in Phase 3. You have the choice of continuing with your Primary Coach in Private Training, attending Group Classes, or doing a little bit of both. You may even decide to try out one of our Specialty Programs!

During Group Classes, you will work out alongside like-minded individuals as you compete for rounds, time, points, glory, emotional satisfaction, physical gains, and personal growth. Your Primary Coach will continue to serve as an important resource for answering questions, keeping you accountable, and staying motivated. At CFLA, we may not always keep score, but you will undoubtedly find yourself with a new support network and an improved quality of life.

So long as you are currently CrossFitting, you are welcome to drop in on any of our regularly scheduled Group Classes.

 If you decide to join us for class, please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out a waiver and introduce yourself to the class coach.
