Hands – Your Most Important Tool In Your Tool Belt

Hands – Your Most Important Tool In Your Tool Belt

If I asked you what the most important tool in your CrossFit tool belt was, what would you say?

Jumprope?
Shoes?
Barbell?
Tape?
Chalk?

What about your HANDS?

I’ll admit it. That is sort of a snarky teacher answer… but, here’s my point. Imagine doing ANYTHING we do in CrossFit without your hands. Sounds crazy, right? Maybe you’ve had an experience (or two) of a time when you couldn’t use your hands after ripping during a workout. Not pleasant… nor is the recovery. While it’s possible (just ask Kyle Maynard), it’s certainly not optimal.

Yet, when I look around the gym at many of your hands, there are examples all over the place of hands that haven’t been well taken care of.

Look… if it were difficult to do and took a lot of time, I’d at least understand. But it’s not. In fact it’s REALLY simple. The tools you need to take care of them are cheap… keeping them in your gear bag is easy… learning how to take care of them takes just a little bit of effort…

Your best bet is PREVENTION. Develop the calouses, but have the proper tools to take care your hands BEFORE you rip (sometimes this means mid-workout). In the video, I address the two best things to use to do this – at least one two should be REQUIRED in every CrossFitter’s gym bag.
