More Being, Less Doing

More Being, Less Doing

We’re a generation that’s driven to the brink. Recently I’ve heard so many stories about people being run into the ground because of the pressures they feel from their jobs. Or the pressures to appear perfect in every way. It’s something that I think we’ll look back on when we’re older and regret. What’s the quote? “No one on their deathbed ever says they wish they had spent more time at the office.”

I’m afraid many of us can’t even see our near burnt-out reality clearly considering the expectations we’ve put on ourselves; the expectation to make a certain amount of money, have this and that, to seem ageless, to appear forever strong and fit and energized. It’s too much. It can’t be healthy. And it’s certainly no way to live. Are we even able to recognize this now?

What will your older self say about how you live you are living your life? Will you wish you had enjoyed life more? Savored it? Took care of yourself more both physically and emotionally? Cherished family, friends, nature, exactly what you have? Will you wish you would have enjoyed the pure sophistication of simplicity and appreciation?

Maybe don’t wait until you’re being interviewed for a short, beautiful film clip about how you should have been if you could have it all back.
