Well in studying this, they have discovered a brain protein called, believe it or not, “Noggin.” When you exercise, more Noggin shows up… and the impact within your brain is significant. More Noggin means more brain stem cell activity… and when they’re more active, more responsive, they are actually dividing and differentiating into additional stem cells or baby neurons. In the brains of mice and rats, this led to their ability to breeze through mazes and other tests of rodent I.Q.

What does it mean for humans? Well we’re not sure… but if you want to read more – Phys Ed: Your Brain on Exercise… or here’s an idea…

Head to the center of a local garden maze with a 95 pound barbell and a pull up bar. Time yourself finding your way out. Get back to the center of the maze. Do “Fran”. Then see how quickly you can find your way out. Were you faster in getting out the second time? Be sure you let us all know? Not sure if that would prove anything, but it certainly sounds like an interesting experiment that would at least generate some great stories and create quite a spectacle!
