The Power of Words

New student Laura forwarded me this experiment where Danielle Laporte talked shit to an apple. Well, half an apple. She cut an apple in half and said mean things to one half and positive, loving things to the other half to note the affects, if any, over the course of 25 days.

You are so awesome! You’re a winner! You are perfect, gorgeous, useful. We love you apple! Apple! You rock! Good apple!” She said to one half.

Apple! You super suck! You no good, ugly, stinking piece of usefulness fruit.” Admittedly, she said it was hard to say these things to the apple so she switched things up: “You’re rotting. You’re not worth my attention because you’re gonna rot. And you know what? I kind of hope you rot. You’re so rotten.

The results are pretty astounding — even if you already buy into the idea that the energy of words has great power. The half that was spoken poorly to rotted significantly. The other half, not so much.

If you think about it, an apple is already dying once it’s plucked from the tree; the negativity only accelerated the process. If these powerful words are directed to a person, imagine the damage being done to living cells, not to mention the spirit. What kind of self talk do you treat yourself to? If you think the negative self talk has less affect, you’re not realizing your power. If anything, positive self talk should be the priority. We can’t often control when the outside world throws us barbs, but we can control the kindness we show ourselves — and then to others.

25 Double unders

10 Burpees
10 DB Seated Floor Press (45/30)
20 DB Front-rack lunges
25 Double unders

Then
400m DB Farmer carry
