Relaxed Under Pressure

Today’s Workout

Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
2 muscle ups
4 handstand push ups
8 k-bell swings (32kg/24kg)If you’ve been around the gym much to hear my coaching, you’ve heard me ranting about relaxing. What? Relaxing? While CrossFitting? One of the things that separates the good from the great during a workout or athletic competition is in the ability to relax under pressure. Another way to say it, is that the great ones win and set world records very often by doing just enough. They have incredible economy of movement, doing the minimum required while still getting the job done.

You can see it in the effort (or lack therof) on someone’s face and in their body during a workout. They actually look relaxed, and make the workout look easy and effortless.

A GREAT example of this recently, is Chris Spealler during the NorthWest Regionals [wmv] [mov]. Watch this video – he makes every movement for the entire workout look easy. Super relaxed, effortless, yet going as hard as he can. Looks like no big deal? Exactly. Speal weighs 140, and is overhead squatting 135!
