5 ThrustersI started reading Steven Pressfield’s “The War of Art“, and was amazed to find how relevant the first few pages are to our Whole Life Challenge.

The first part of this books deals with Resistance – you know, the force that prevents us from achieving the life that we always dreamed of. Three of the top eleven activities that most commonly elicit Resistance in all people are part the Challenge… any diet or health regimen, any activity whose aim is tighter abdominals, and any course or program designed to overcome an unwholesome habit or addiction. Resistance comes any time we engage in an act that rejects immediate gratification in favor of long-term growth, health or integrity.

So, what do you do with that info? I don’t know the “official” answer yet since I’m only in Chapter 1, but in my opinion, simply knowing that Resistance is coming is powerful. I know to expect it, I know that it will come up, and knowing it, hopefully means that it won’t surprise me or have as much power over me. We’ll see if that theory holds true over the next eight weeks, if I can keep “showing up” in spite of my Resistance.

I’m looking forward to saying good bye to the foods that have the most power over me… chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, chocolate cake, diet Coke, pizza (gotta stop here… I can feel Resistance coming already!) How about you?
