Saturday it beings. But why do we give the beginning of something so much power? Will that mean the middle — the actual journey — will lose its appeal? Will it feel not as fun or as meaningful? Will the end hold a lot of power too, as it usually does, so we end up falling off, back to mediocrity … only to wait for another beginning?

I have to say, I’m excited about this Whole Life Challenge, but I’m consciously trying to dial back the power of the beginning. I’m looking forward to the creation of new possibility around my health and fitness, for doing this with my friends and family, for witnessing positive changes in all of you, but my main plan is to sustain the energy around the challenge throughout it, and beyond. Staying fully engaged is often the hard part, but if I can dial back the power of an excited beginning, then hopefully I can dial back the power of the more difficult times that will come in the middle. Then maybe I’ll handle the end a little more gracefully than past challenges. Sustained endurance is what I’m after.

Breathe, guys. We’ve got this.
