Today I’m going to throw something at you as a gentile suggestion for working on something that throws pretty much everyone out of their comfort zone – ocean swimming!! YEA!! Swimming will be a regular part of our CFLA Triathlon training on Saturday mornings, however, if you want to get a jump start, or want to do it more frequently than the 1-2x per month we’ll be doing it as a group, you should check out Tower 26. Jonesy and Alex B. have already been – said it’s EARLY, but it’s great to have a big community to practice with – Wednesday mornings at 6am.
And… the reason you need to practice both swimming and getting in and out of the surf is for instances like these (video below – for the really big set check it out at 2:36). My friend Dawn posted this video of the swimming race last Saturday at the Venice Pier… and it just goes to show that practice matters… she made it through the surf and finished the 1.2 mile swim in under 40 minutes (she is training for Ironman). Many swimmers didn’t make it out. Believe it or not there is a method and technique that really does make a difference… you CAN do this – and, you should know what you’re getting yourself into!!
