15 BurpeesHow much patience do you have when it comes to getting the results you want? Too often in life I find myself trying to rush the outcome of the things I want by jumping ahead of where I’m at or what’s appropriate in that moment. This happened with my training last year. I was bound and determined to keep pushing myself hard when what I really needed to do was tend to a long standing chronic back problem. What ended up happening was I was sidelined for 6 months unable to work out at all – basically my back just made the choice for me. Standing back I can see that the work I did on my back over the next 6 months was not only important but critical to my fitness. It was actually part of my CrossFit training. I wouldn’t be the athlete I am today without it. Slowing down and actually working on what needed to be worked on has led to huge gains, not to mention being pain free for the first time in at least a decade! Wherever you are, slow down, try and appreciate exactly what is happening right now in spite of the fact that it may feel too slow for your liking. The lifetime benefits, not the short term gains, are really what we are after.
