This Stuff Is Hard
This CrossFit stuff is hard. I’m never going to be a Navy Seal. I’m never going to be an Olympic athlete. But we train like we might. For many of us, CrossFit will be the biggest physical challenge we encounter, not just in any given day, but in our lives. And it’s hard…really hard. There are easier ways to get through the day. We could sleep in. We could eat donuts. We could stay up late on Friday, not worried what Saturday morning has in store for us. We could be safe in our living rooms, in our pajamas, instead of at the gym taping our hands, hearts pounding, in anticipation of class beginning.
Is the heart pounding fear what makes it great? How does that work? I think CrossFit makes us feel alive. And it’s the fact that it’s hard and scary that makes us alive. It’s like a roller coaster or a bungee jump. It reminds you of the simplest, basest components in life. Pick things up and run. Throw things and jump on things. That’s what humans are made for and for sixty minutes, that’s what we do. That’s all we do. It’s beautiful in its simplicity — being human, and nothing else, for sixty minutes.
