As I return from Costa Rica, I am reminded that no matter what is going on, no matter how much there is to do, if I can’t take time for myself, none of it really feels worth it.
I can promise myself that I’ll take it “someday,” when I “have time.” And I can pretty much be assured that those conditions will never exist the way they exist in my head – everything tied up in a neat little bun, no responsibility, no one to answer to, nothing to finish.
I have spent 7 days pretty much disconnected from the internet, enjoying my girlfriend, my friends, and a beautiful country. And when I come back, there will be work to do, things to finish, and people to answer to. Just like it was when I left.
Not everyone may be able to take a week at a time, but that’s not a reason not to find a weekend, a day, an hour, even 10 minutes. Just starting with the smallest bit possible might get you addicted. Next thing you know, you’ll be finding time for the person most important to you. Yourself.
