Tough Love

Every so often a movement comes up in a workout that stuns you with it’s simplicity and it’s devastating power. Movements like pistol squats, bunny hops, crab walks – heck, if you see any animal movement, watch out! They tend to rely heavily on your core, your hip mobility, and sometimes your shoulder stability. Not only do these movements hit muscles you don’t normally work (at least in THAT way) but they also get right in there with your agility, balance, flexibility and coordination. They’re little bullies – they pick on all of your weaknesses. If these are really difficult for you then they are as valuable for you as Olympic lifting is. They will strengthen you in ways that you haven’t even yet imagined and improve everything where they hurt you the most. Think of them as “tough love.”
