Box Jumps (24”/20”)For those of you who know me, you know I like running just about as much as I like turkey burgers. It’s just one of my least favorite feelings in the world. I dislike it so much that in order to be OK at it I’ve had to make Thursday my running day. That is the day on which if I want to work out, I have to run.
On Tuesday, a running workout came up. Now if you put “5 rounds” next to anything that includes “400m run” rest assured I will do my very best to weasel out of it. All of a sudden, I was too “something” (tired, sore, injured, busy) to take class. It was in my calendar to workout, but as 1:00 drew nearer, I made up better and better reasons not to do it.
All of a sudden I realized that if I am going to wait until I am inspired to run, I am never going to do it, and I am never going to get any better at it. That’s what my Thursday is about — not waiting for inspiration. It’s about taking the action as soon as you know that it lines up with what you want.
A great coach once said, “Do the thing and you will have the strength.” He meant don’t wait for the strength you think you need to be able to do something. Do it, and you will discover that you had the strength all along.
