What We Hold Onto

I’m upset about the things that are going on in the country, in the world. I’m sad and I’m terrified by some politicians’ and some Americans’ reactions and comments — and no, I don’t want to debate any aspect of what is going on …

I just want to look at puppy videos for a while. And listen to holiday music with Shirley in the office. And read stories about rescued kittens that cohabitate peacefully with bunnies. And look at photos of penguins in sweaters knitted by a 109 year old man in Australia.

I’m just going to turn away for a second, turn off the news, and ponder the things that are good: My daughters who are about to burst out into the world with their fierceness; Julio, my rock and best friend. My co-workers and the community at the gym who have all become family to me. These are good. This is what I hold onto when I’m anxious about the news and violent events around us. Thank you for being part of that.
