Thinking about all the recent discussion on reforming the healthcare system, I began to wonder, “Regardless of the outcome of the debate, how much better off am I thanks to CrossFit? Does a solid diet combined with rigorous workouts that increase my muscular, skeletal, cardiovascular, and neurological health give me a leg up on sickness, disease, injury, or rehabilitation?” I can tell you that I am healthier and more fit than I ever have been in my entire life. I can’t remember that last time I was ill. My recovery from a crippling back injury was quicker than I could have every hoped for. Does CrossFit guarantee that I won’t get sick or injured? No. But the “healthcare” we as a community engage in is a powerful step in creating a lifestyle where individuals truly have choice regarding the state of their well being and where illness and diseases aren’t a normal part of everyday living.
