What is your intention? When you go to the gym, or leave your house for a run, have you set your intention for your workout? Or, are you trying to get a little exercise in while thinking about all the other things going on in your life?
One of my clients asked me once if he could go to the track, run the straightaways, and walk the curves so that he could mentally focus on his work day twice during each lap.
When you’re working out while reading the paper, watching TV, thinking about other “stuff,” ask yourself, “What is my intention for the next 20 minutes?” If the answer is to build your health and fitness, then practice actually being there for yourself completely, physically and mentally.
