Today’s Workout

Five rounds, for max weight:
5 Dumbbell deadlifts
5 Dumbbell hang power cleans
5 Dumbbell front squats
5 Dumbbell push presses

Increase the load each round. Rest as necessary between rounds.What’s the difference between when you accomplish what you set out to do and when you don’t? Is it the desire? The knowledge? The actions?

Think about it. You’ve probably wanted something really badly before, but not gotten it because you didn’t know what to do. The next problem is, just knowing what to do has never really been the difference between success and failure. How many times have you known what to do and simply not done it? Taking action is a step in the right direction, but without follow through and repetition, the effect of those actions have a limited reach. So knowing what you want and what to do, then doing it, and doing it consistently over time may be the start of a recipe for your success. However, there’s still a key component missing, as I see it.

What keeps you consistent? How can you ensure that consistency over time? The best things I know for consistency is accountability. Make a promise — to someone else. Put in a structure for actions that goes beyond your momentary desires or need to know. A real promise engages you in the world. Your unspoken desire keeps you in the world of fantasy. It might be boring and unglamorous, but without a commitment, all you have to go by is your mood.
